Editor, Portfolio Adviser

Lauren's Story

Lauren is the editor of Portfolio Adviser and oversees the rest of the MA Financial Media brands. She is based between Herne Hill and the Carter Lane office, in St Paul’s.

About Lauren

After deciding the only way to make money as a writer was through journalism, I embarked on my NCTJ qualification after completing a degree in English Literature with Creative Writing. Thankfully, I now adore being a journalist and realise I would have been a completely terrible poet.

Having fallen into financial journalism as a way of escaping village fetes and late-night council meetings as a local news journalist, I have now spent 10 years specialising in investment and macroeconomic journalism, for a professional investor audience.

I live with my husband, son and hoard of rescue animals in the Salisbury countryside.

Lauren's role

I currently oversee the editorial running of Portfolio Adviser’s website and monthly print publication. We’re a small team so I still write regularly, which I’m thankful for, as it’s one of my favourite parts of the day-to-day. A lot of our newsflow comes from Stock Exchange announcements, so we are always up bright and early for when the FTSE opens at 7am.

A big part of our role in the financial services sector is networking and keeping in touch with industry contacts. This allows us access to exclusive news, and high-quality long-form content through interviews or comment from spokespeople.

I also ensure that our brands stay well-connected, syndicating content where possible, or helping each other through sector-specific industry knowledge, or our little black books of useful contacts.

I regularly chair and host Portfolio Adviser events. These range from lunch panels in the City, to our two-night Congress events for delegates featuring upwards of 14 sponsors and guest speakers. These take place across the country and internationally.
